COMBINED ANTE-NUPTIAL CONTRACT AND MARRIAGE / CIVIL UNION REGISTRATION
Getting married is a fairly significant occasion.
It does not necessarily follow that it needs to be a very complicated one.
Some people want the venue, the flowers, the seating plan and several months of increasingly urgent conversations about table linen. Others would simply like to marry the person they love, have a glass of something afterwards and get on with being married.
We are very happy to assist the latter. We can also assist the former with the legal part. The table linen, regrettably, falls outside our area of practice.
We offer an all-inclusive ante-nuptial contract and marriage / civil union package, allowing you to deal with both at the same time and in the same place.
BEFORE THE DAY
Before your chosen date, you will meet with our notary and marriage officer, either by teleconference or in person, to discuss your ante-nuptial contract and the arrangements for your marriage.
We will explain your matrimonial property options, answer your questions and prepare the necessary documents.
There will be talk of accrual, commencement values and matrimonial property regimes. This is not traditionally the romantic part, but it is important, and we promise to make it as painless as possible.
Once that is done, you can return to the considerably more enjoyable business of getting married.
ON THE DAY
Your ante-nuptial contract and marriage documents are signed at the same appointment at our offices in Cape Town.
You are welcome to bring your own witnesses. If you do not have two suitable people available on a weekday morning to watch you enter into a legally binding union, we can provide them.
Photographers are very welcome. Small weddings are still weddings, and there is no rule requiring the photographic record to be proportionate to the guest list.
We will also provide a complimentary bottle of MCC — or non-alcoholic bubbly, if you prefer — to toast the occasion.
Flowers are welcome. Nice clothes are welcome. Vows are welcome. Parents, children and a small number of particularly important humans can generally be accommodated.
If you have something else in mind, ask us.
Within the limits of the law, good sense and the physical dimensions of our office, we will do our best.
ONE APPOINTMENT. R7,500. EVERYTHING TAKEN CARE OF.
Our all-inclusive fee is R7,500 (VAT inclusive).
This includes:
- Consultation and advice regarding your ante-nuptial contract
- Drafting and preparation of the ANC
- Notarial execution of the ANC
- Your marriage or civil union
- Preparation and signing of the required marriage documentation
- Submission of your marriage for registration with Home Affairs
- Registration of your ANC at the Deeds Office
- Delivery of your original registered ANC once it has been returned to us
- A bottle of MCC to celebrate afterwards
In other words, we deal with the contracts, registers, signatures, submissions and government departments.
You need only bring yourselves, the required documents and the person you intend to marry.
Preferably the correct one.
A SMALL WEDDING IS STILL A WEDDING
For some couples, this is the entire wedding.
For others, it is the official part before a much larger celebration involving caterers, speeches, distant relatives and an alarming number of emails.
And for some, the perfect wedding really is a quiet appointment, two witnesses, a bottle of bubbly and dinner somewhere lovely afterwards.
There is no correct amount of fuss required to get married.
There are, however, some legal requirements.
Fortunately, those are our problem.
